Dubai Mall Car Park

Have you ever lost your car in a parking garage?

Well, losing your car in one of the largest parking garages in the world was a challenge, and with very real impact to Mall manager, Emaar. Customer feedback revealed a significant challenge - how do I find my car, dissatisfaction at the parking experience, and an increasing preference to spend time elsewhere.

The parking consultant, Walker Parking, re-strategized traffic routing across the car park’s 5 internal zones and up to 10 floors. But an equally critical issue remained; orientation. With multiple exit/entry points to the car park to and from both the street and from the mall itself, the dominating daily customer complaint “i’ve lost my car”.

And so our wayfinding team built a new system strategy from scratch; zone naming, column and aisle identification, floor numbering, color coding, exit guidance, lift lobby, identification and place-making, car park and mall entrance / exit naming and identification. Our initial palette was limited; wall and floor paint only, so the clarity of of our system components was critical and needed to be minimal and quick to comprehend.
